Bone Microstructure Osteoporosis Trabecular Bone EFFECT OF VITAMIN K2 ON 3-D TRABECULAR MICROARCHITECTURE IN OVARIECTOMIZED RATS
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction : Two types of vitamin K occur in nature: vitamin K1 (phylloquinone, 2-methyl-3-phytyl-1,4-naphthoquinone), which is derived from plants, and vitamin K2 (menaquinones), a series of vitamers with multiisoprene units at the 3-position. Vitamin K2 activates osteoblasts to enhance calcification, acts as a coenzyme of γ-carboxylase for the Gla protein, and is also reported to inhibit bone resorption. Over the past few years, several articles have been devoted to the study of vitamin K2 treatment and osteoporosis, however, there have been few studies of the effect of vitamin K2 on 3-D trabecular microarchitecture in osteoporosis. The objective of this study is to quantify the effect of vitamin K2 on 3-D trabecular microarchitecture using an animal model for postmenopausal osteoporosis induced by ovariectomy and a calcium-deficient diet. In this study, we assessed the effects of menatetrenone (2-methyl-3-all-transtetraprenyl-1,4naphthoquinone), a vitamin K2 with four isoprene units.

P-181: Protective Role of Vitamin E As An Alternative Treatment for Ovariectomized Osteoporotic Rats
Background: Osteoporosis one of the postmenopausal symptoms is characterized by bone loss. There is a link between excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation, estrogen deficiency due to cessation of ovarian function and bone loss. Free radicals are responsible for causing osteoblast apoptosis and reducing osteoblastogenesis in bone remodeling. Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant with the a...
متن کاملEffects of Vitamin K2 on the Development of Osteopenia in Rats as the Models of Osteoporosis
Vitamin K2 is widely used for the treatment of osteoporosis in Japan. To understand the effects of vitamin K2 on bone mass and bone metabolism, we reviewed its effects on the development of osteopenia in rats, which characterizes models of osteoporosis. Vitamin K2 was found to attenuate the increase in bone resorption and/or maintain bone formation, reduce bone loss, protect against the loss of...
متن کاملTreatment with vitamin D3 and/or vitamin K2 for postmenopausal osteoporosis.
It is established in Japan that treatment with 1alpha-hydroxyvitamin D3 (alfacalcidol) slightly reduces bone turnover, sustains lumbar bone mineral density (BMD), and prevents osteoporotic vertebral fractures in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, while vitamin K2 (menatetrenone) enhances gamma-carboxylation of bone glutamic acid residues and secretion of osteocalcin, sustains lumbar BMD, a...

Background and Aim: Osteoporosis is a metabolic bone disease that can result from cytokines activity such as TNFɑ. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of pulsed electromagnet therapy on femoral strength and bone microstructure in ovariectomized rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 30 rats were randomly divided into control, experimental1 (ovariectomized...
متن کاملTwo Different Isomers of Vitamin E Prevent Bone Loss in Postmenopausal Osteoporosis Rat Model
Postmenopausal osteoporotic bone loss occurs mainly due to cessation of ovarian function, a condition associated with increased free radicals. Vitamin E, a lipid-soluble vitamin, is a potent antioxidant which can scavenge free radicals in the body. In this study, we investigated the effects of alpha-tocopherol and pure tocotrienol on bone microarchitecture and cellular parameters in ovariectomi...
